Ninilchik Charters offers the most Halibut fishing options of any charter operator on the Kenai Peninsula. Fish the waters of Cook Inlet from either Homer or Deep Creek or fish the waters of Prince William Sound from the Port of Seward. With three locations on the Kenai Peninsula, Ninilchik Charters has a trip that will fit your travel plans, whether just for you or for a large group or corporate fishing trip.
The daily limit for Alaska Halibut in 2010 is 2 halibut per day, per person, and many fish caught weigh well over 100 pounds. Ninilchik Charters offers superb Halibut fishing trips, departing daily, from the harbor at Seward, Alaska. In addition to Halibut, the waters of Prince William Sound out of Seward offer a varieity of saltwater species including ling cod, yellow eye rockfish, and sea bass.

The waters around Seward are also teeming with wildlife and scenic with surprising vistas around each point. It makes for a very full day with fishing, wildlife viewing and sightseeing all rolled into one delightful experience.

Ninilchik Charters offers Full Day Halibut Fishing Trips out of the port of Homer, at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. Homer is reknowned as the Halibut fishing capital of the world, and offers access to some of the best fishing grounds in Alaska, as well as scenic beauty that abounds.
Trips depart from the Homer harbor daily at 6:00 am, and the maximum group size is 16 passengers onboard our 50 foot Delta Marine vessel the "Sundy". Click our 2010 Rates page for more information on rates and reservations.

Ninilchik Charters operates from April through September offering scenic and exciting Halibut and King salmon fishing in beautiful Cook Inlet out of Deep Creek. We are located in Ninilchik, Alaska - a cozy town about a three-hour scenic drive from Anchorage. The boat launch at Deep Creek allows us access to some of the most productive halibut and king salmon fishing in the state.
Our King Salmon/Halibut combo fishing trips in Cook Inlet are full-day charters lasting about 8 to 10 hours. Depending on the tide schedule, we will fish for either salmon or halibut first, then switch gear and fish for the other.
Our boats, the 30' Arctic Expedition and Arctic Endurance,and the 32' Arctic Explorer, offer comfortable cabins and rest room facilities. The boats are operated by licensed skippers and avid fishermen with a wealth of experience in Alaskan waters. State of the art electronic equipment, including satellite navigation on board, allow our skipper to navigate and return to our most productive fishing spots, safely & successfully.

Ninilchik Charters highly recommends vacuum packing your fish to give it a much longer freezer shelf life. This method drastically cuts down on freezer burn and preserves the flavor of your hard earned catch.
We have commercial style vacuum packing equipment. We can take your fish right from the filleting table and have it vacuum packed in a matter of minutes. For your convenience, we have freezer space available and Federal Express service as well to help you get your fish home!
Our processing services are offered to our clients for a minimal fee and are part of our commitment to providing a full service fishing trip.

Enjoy these great Alaska family Halibut cooking recipes, compliments of Ninilchik Charters!
Cooking Sauce for Halibut
1 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup sugar
1 bulb garlic--chopped 1 stick butter
1 large onion--chopped
Place garlic and onion in butter and sauté. Add soy sauce and sugar. Pour sauce over halibut fillets and bake or barbecue until done.
Steamed Halibut with Tomatillo, Orange and Cilantro Sauce
8 Tomatillos, papery husks removed
1/4 cup coarsely chopped red bell pepper
1 small jalapeno pepper, minced
1/4 cup cilantro leaves
1/4 cup orange juice
2 Tblsp rice wine vinegar
4 5-ounce halibut steaks
In small saucepan, place first six ingredients. Bring to a simmer, and cook over low heat for 5 minutes. Allow mixture to cool slightly.
In food processor bowl, pulse mixture three times, just enough to break up the tomatillos. Be careful not to puree the mixture.
Season halibut with salt and pepper. Place steaks in a steamer over simmering water and cover. Steam for 8 to 10 minutes, until fish is cooked through. Place steaks on plate and cascade sauce over top of steamed fish. Serves four.
Sautéed Halibut Fillet with Coconut-Curry Sauce and Papaya Salsa
4 4-ounce skinless halibut fillets
Papaya Salsa:
1 ripe papaya, peeled and diced
2 Tblsp chopped cilantro leaves (save stems for curry sauce)
1 tsp minced jalapeno pepper
4 kumquats, chopped coarsely
2 Tblsp fresh orange juice
1 Tblsp fresh lime juice
2 Tblsp finely chopped red bell pepper
1/2 tsp chopped ginger
Curry Sauce:
1 Tblsp sesame oil
1 tsp each of minced shallot, garlic and ginger
10 1-inch pieces of cilantro stem
1 Tblsp curry powder or paste
3 Tblsp rice wine vinegar
1 cup canned, unsweetened coconut milk
1 Tblsp lime juice
To make salsa, combine all ingredients in small bowl. Cover and refrigerate while making the sauce and cooking the halibut.
For curry sauce, cook shallot, ginger and garlic in sesame oil over medium heat until it begins to sizzle. Add cilantro stems and curry powder, stirring well. Stir in vinegar and coconut milk. Allow sauce to simmer until reduced slightly in volume and thickened. Remove sauce from heat and strain through a fine strainer, discarding solids. Return sauce to pan, season with salt and pepper and add lime juice. Keep warm while cooking the fish.
To cook halibut, season with salt and pepper. Sauté fish in 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, turning once, until cooked through.
To serve, place 1 tablespoon curry sauce on plate, place halibut on sauce and cascade salsa over top. Serves four.
Halibut Onion Crunch
4 Halibut fillets or steaks 1/4 tsp marjoram
3 Tblsp cooking oil 1/4 tsp garlic salt
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper 1/8 tsp dry mustard
3 Tblsp grated parmesan cheese
1/3 cup canned, frenchfried onions, crumbled
Combine oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, mustard, marjoram and garlic salt. Pour over halibut. Marinate 20 minutes, turning once. Transfer fish to buttered baking dish. Sprinkle with onions and cheese. Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes or until fish flakes with fork.
Serves four.
Garlic Grilled Halibut
2 large halibut steaks, 1-inch thick 3/4 tsp salt
