Looking for something to do on one of your spare days ? Have you thought about finding gold on the same ground that the miners of the 1886 Alaska gold rush worked. Well look no further Layton or his dad will go beyond to show you a full day of fun finding gold that the miners have left behind and by the end of the day you will have the confidence to start a new hobby when you get home or have the experience if you ever need it.

A Day Of Gold Prospecting
The day starts by meeting your guide at 8 am at a set destination, then head into one of their gold claims. Once in there you will be shown how to set up each piece of equipment that you’ll be using throughout the day. Once the first piece of equipment is set up you will be pointed in the right direction on where you should prospect for the gold.
Once you have a good amount of raw dirt you will start running it through the first piece of equipment, then when you have ran a good amount of material you will shut pumps down and then clean the equipment ending up with just concentrates. Then he will show you how to set up and run a gold cube. Running the gold cube is where everyone gets excited, they start seeing the gold being caught up in the matting. One guest uses a pair of tweezers to pick the bigger pieces of gold and one uses a sniffer bottle to suck up the smaller gold. Once you’re done running the cube you will end up with a pan of black sands and gold, then you have your choice to learn how to separate the black sands from your gold with the Banjo pan or just a gold pan.
Now that you have cleaned the gold from the black sands you can take a picture of your gold in pan or in the vial that you will take home.
Adventure Information
This gold adventure is about an hour and fifteen minutes from the town of Soldotna. We usually take groups from two to eight guest, we have done groups bigger and in the month of May we do School field trips call for special pricing on big groups.
No matter your age or strength, your guide will teach you on the equipment that best fits your abilities and needs. So far, our prospecting guests have ranged in all ages from kids to a grandfather full filling his dream of finding gold on his own. Guests work at their own pace and take breaks anytime they like.
